Peppol : 3-month tolerance period
In Belgium, the Federal Public Service (FPS) Finance has introduced a three-month tolerance period (January to March 2026) for electronic invoicing via Peppol. This period allows companies to adapt without immediate sanctions, provided they can demonstrate reasonable and timely efforts to comply. This tolerance does not postpone the general obligation, which remains set for 1 January 2026 for all VAT-registered businesses.
Details of the 3-month tolerance period (January–March 2026):
- No immediate sanctions for infringements related to the new obligation.
- Condition: You must be able to demonstrate that you have made reasonable and timely efforts to comply (e.g. a signed contract with a software provider, a documented project plan).
- Covered cases: Technical issues beyond your control (supplier delays, system errors).
- Not a general postponement: The start date of 1 January 2026 remains firm, and cases are assessed individually.
